Finding Balance in Ireland

Words and Photos by Michaela Vitagliano, Visiting Student Blogger

Like many of you, I’m not someone that delights in change and its accompanying uncertainty. But naturally, deciding to study abroad for a year is a decision that is greeted with unknowns and uncertainties. After almost a full year here, I can definitely say most of my worries – Will I like Ireland, will I make friends, will I find things to do here that I enjoy – were for naught.

It seems like I just arrived in Trinity College but it has already been 3 months since my adventure here started. I had never been to Dublin or Ireland before so I didn’t know what to expect. I just got on the aeroplane and hoped for the best. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.

BITESIZE TOP 10 COURSES: LAW

Pavel is one of our US students who is in his final year in Trinity.  Here he lets us know about his experience of studying Law at Trinity, one of our Top 10 Courses.

Your name: Pavel Rozman

Where you’re from in the US: Philadelphia

Your year of study: Fourth year

Your programme of study / course: Law, LL.B

What made you decide to study your course at Trinity?

My mom was born and raised in Dublin, so anytime we were over visiting family we stopped by Trinity. It’s as central to the city as possible, and just gorgeous to walk through. I applied and when I got in, a high school teacher of mine asked me: “Will you regret passing on this incredible opportunity to go to the same state schools everyone else is?” I didn’t pass on that opportunity and I couldn’t be happier here. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. Professionally speaking the advantages it puts me at are incredible. I’m able to be a lawyer in the EU or Ireland/UK or the United States all for the time and price it would take most students to get only their undergraduate degree.

There is a lot you can do in the city without having to spend the entirety of the pocket money your granny sent you. So put on your walking shoes, grab your packed lunch and off you go, exploring Ireland’s capitol without spending a single cent.

STUDENT LIFE AT TRINITY – AN EXPANSIVE STUDENT CULTURE

By: Anna McAlpine (Visiting Student to Trinity College Dublin at the School of English

Home Institution: St. Andrews, English Literature and Philosophy MA (Hons)

Before coming to Trinity I had compiled a list – a list that went on about three pages, bursting at the margins – full of the societies I was going to join when I arrived. I was like an overexcited fresher all over again. Thankfully, for the good of my academics and sleeping pattern, I managed to considerably narrow down that list. I managed to whittle it down to three extracurricular that I have thoroughly enjoyed – namely, Evening Creative Writing Class, the Metafizz and the Law Society. I will expound slightly on what each one entails in case you also want to join any of these fabulous activities!
